T his makes up for the typical e-scooter rider in my area, an awkwardly facial-haired younger person with a satchel, tight jeans, and a flannel, who’s fall will be broken by the ground.

Also reminds me of limebike riders, half of who seem to be learning to ride a bike for the first time, what better place than in a crowded area?

A while back I had a “fun” almost-incident with a kid on one of these scooters, i n this sorta-kinda- not-actually-a-mall place in DC. It’s one building with a bunch of big box retailers crammed together.

I was walking from the elevator coming up from the garage, in the back of the lobby past this Marshall’s sign, towards the main entrance.

I could see, almost in slow motion, this kid on a Lime or something similar, come flying into the lobby through a door that was still open from someone walking through it the normal way. He zipped right past a security guard as shoppers tried to dodge him.

For a half second I thought, “I have the perfect angle to tackle this kid!” but of course my better judgment prevailed and I let him scoot on by. So it was like something out of a cartoon where this kid flies by on the scooter, then after a slightly longer pause than you think should happen, the security guard went running  past chasing after him.

Good times.

I work in the city and park a block or so away from the office, so I’m often in the elevator with someone that notices the riding gear I’m wearing.

They always ask, “Riding the motorcycle today?”

Sure, I have a lot of silly answers, but thanks to all the eScooters, I have a new one.

“Nope. I fell off one of those rent-a-scooters before and I’m not taking my chances.”
